Market Data

All data, one list

Every table, chart, calculator, download and film in this half: 212 tables, 22 charts, 15 tools, 25 files, 6 films.

Every page in the Market Data half

The three numbers desks, their topic pages, the weekly summary and the reference shelf.

Calculators and spreadsheets

The 5 that run in the page as you type, then the 10 Excel files you can download and keep.

  • Yarn count converter One count, read in seven numbering systems.
  • Woven fabric weight Construction in, GSM and yarn consumption out.
  • Freight, box rate to per kilogram This week’s index rate turned into a cost per kilogram and per garment.
  • Landed cost, quick check Base duty, the US extra layer for your origin, and VAT, each on the right base for its market.
  • Cost of payment terms What a deposit and a credit period cost in interest at your own borrowing rate.
  • Yarn count converter Excel file Type your count and the system it is quoted in, and read it in every other system. Every figure below the two yellow cells is a live formula.
  • Fibre specification sheet, blank Excel file The specification lines from our fibre guide as a blank form. Answer each row in the yellow cells, send it with your enquiry, and the offers that come back compare because every merchant priced the same stated thing.
  • Yarn specification sheet, blank Excel file The specification lines from our yarn guide as a blank form. Answer each row in the yellow cells, send it with your enquiry, and the quotes that come back compare because every mill priced the same stated thing.
  • Fabric specification sheet, blank Excel file The specification lines from our fabric guide as a blank form. Answer each row in the yellow cells, send it with your enquiry, and the quotes that come back compare because every mill priced the same stated cloth.
  • Fabric weight calculator Excel file Type a construction into the input cells and read the weight and the yarn it will eat. Every figure below the inputs is a live formula.
  • Freight reckoner Excel file Type the box rate you were actually quoted and read what it adds to every kilogram, at four loadabilities. Ocean leg only.
  • Yarn costing template Excel file The shape of a yarn cost, for a single fibre or for a blend of up to three, with every rate a cell you type. It carries no figure of ours and no market price of any kind.
  • Fabric costing template Excel file The shape of a woven or knitted fabric cost, with every rate a cell you type. It carries no figure of ours and no market price of any kind.
  • Garment costing template Excel file The shape of a garment cost, with every rate a cell you type. It carries no figure of ours and no market price of any kind.
  • Your first garment order: the full cost to your door Excel file One garment order costed into the United States, Europe and the Gulf at the same time, so the three landed costs can be compared honestly. It carries no duty rate, freight rate or fee of ours.

Every download

The tables we are licensed to republish, as spreadsheets with a second sheet explaining the columns, and the list of what cannot be downloaded and why.

If you buy fibre

Cotton, the world balance sheet and the fibre property tables. The top of the chain: everything below it is priced off these, so a yarn or fabric buyer is often better off reading this shelf than their own.

Fibre specification sheet, blank

The specification lines from our fibre guide as a blank form. Answer each row in the yellow cells, send it with your enquiry, and the offers that come back compare because every merchant priced the same stated thing. A calculator, not a table: the yellow cells are yours to type in.

Cotton sold but not yet priced (on-call)

Sales and purchases already made whose price is still to be fixed against a futures month, as reported for 2026-10-09. Unfixed sales have to be priced eventually, and the fixing is itself buying.

Data as of 17 October 2026. 4 rows, 7 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

Natural fibre properties

Typical published property ranges for the natural fibres a garment buyer meets.

9 rows, 10 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

Man-made fibre properties

Typical published property ranges for synthetic and regenerated cellulosic fibres.

Moisture allowances used to settle yarn weight

The allowances weight is settled on, every one of them from Annex IX of Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011. Agreed conventions, not measurements. Confirm the figure your own contract names.

22 rows, 2 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

If you buy yarn

A converter you type your count into, a costing structure with every rate left blank for you, the full conversion matrix, and the American producer price history that tests a mill saying the market moved.

Yarn specification sheet, blank

The specification lines from our yarn guide as a blank form. Answer each row in the yellow cells, send it with your enquiry, and the quotes that come back compare because every mill priced the same stated thing. A calculator, not a table: the yellow cells are yours to type in.

Yarn count conversions

Every rule for converting between the seven yarn count systems, generated from the definition of each system.

US producer price indexes for fibre and yarn

The last 24 months of each index. Different series use different base periods, so the levels must not be divided by one another as published.

Data as of 14 October 2026. 24 rows, 8 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

Month of year pattern in producer prices

Each month is expressed as a percentage of its own calendar year average, and those figures are then averaged across the complete years in the window. Expressing a month against its own year removes the trend, so what is left is the shape of the year rather than inflation. 103 means that month typically sat three per cent above the year it belonged to. A seasonal average is a description of the past. It is not a forecast, it carries no confidence interval, and any single year can and does ignore it. It is computed from US producer price indexes, so it describes US producer prices and nothing else.

Data as of 14 October 2026. 5 rows, 29 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

If you buy fabric

Construction to weight to yarn consumption, as a calculator and as worked examples, plus a costing structure. There is no honest published fabric index anywhere, so a fabric price is built up from yarn, conversion and freight, and these are the three files that let you build it.

Fabric specification sheet, blank

The specification lines from our fabric guide as a blank form. Answer each row in the yellow cells, send it with your enquiry, and the quotes that come back compare because every mill priced the same stated cloth. A calculator, not a table: the yellow cells are yours to type in.

See it explained on the site

Fabric weight worked examples

Three woven constructions taken from construction to weight and to yarn consumption. Crimp allowances are planning figures, not specifications.

3 rows, 15 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

If you buy garments

Two costing structures and two trade files. The trade files answer where to make it, the garment costing answers what it should be built from, and the first order sheet answers the question a brand asks before either of those: what will it actually cost me to get it through customs.

Your first garment order: the full cost to your door

One garment order costed into the United States, Europe and the Gulf at the same time, so the three landed costs can be compared honestly. It carries no duty rate, freight rate or fee of ours. A calculator, not a table: the yellow cells are yours to type in.

EU27 apparel imports by supplier

Value, weight and euro per kilogram for HS 61 and HS 62, latest month against the same month a year earlier.

UK apparel imports by supplier

Value, weight and pounds per kilogram for HS 61 and HS 62, with the year on year change.

Data as of 14 October 2026. 115 rows, 12 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

Whatever you buy

The container, the currency and the country. None of these care what is in the box, and all three move a landed cost more than most negotiating does.

Currency reference rates

ECB euro reference rates, with the US dollar crosses computed from them by VeriMills.

Data as of 16 October 2026. 40 rows, 3 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

Country cost indicators by origin

The published indicators behind a conversion cost comparison. Each indicator has its own reference year, and that year now has its own column rather than being written inside the number.

Data as of 14 October 2026. 7 rows, 16 columns, plus the explanation sheet. See it on the site

What you cannot download, and why

Showing a figure on a page and handing over a file of figures are different acts under most data licences. These are shown on the site and are not ours to pass on. The reason is the licence itself in every case, not caution for its own sake.

Datasets shown on the site that may not be redistributed as a file, with the reason for each.
Dataset Where it is shown Why it is not downloadable
Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange settlements /raw-materials/numbers/fibre/#polyester The exchange's daily settlement table is not reproduced on the site at all. Individual settlements are quoted as facts with the trading day attached, and a file of them would be a reproduction of the table. Excluded entirely.
Drewry World Container Index /raw-materials/numbers/landed/#freight Drewry is a link only. We publish no Drewry figure anywhere on the site, so there is nothing to export.
SCFI and CCFI lane tables /raw-materials/numbers/landed/#freight The Shanghai Shipping Exchange lane tables are not reproduced. A small number of lanes are quoted on the page for context with the source named; a file of them would be a redistribution of the table itself. Excluded.
UN Comtrade garment and yarn tables /garments/numbers/products/#products The UN policy on use and re-dissemination waives the licence for free of charge visualisation and for small extracts. A downloadable file of a forty line tariff table is neither: it is bulk re-dissemination. Shown on the site, not exported. European and UK trade figures cover much of the same ground and are exportable, so the Europe file below is the download for a garment buyer.
Gujcot daily spot rate list /raw-materials/numbers/fibre/#benchmarks Gujcot publishes its daily list openly for the trade and we link to it rather than reproducing it. The single headline rate is quoted as a fact with attribution; the list is not ours to hand on.
What this means for the datasets we may not redistribute

What this is A list of the datasets that appear on our pages but that we are not permitted to hand on as a file, with the licence reason for each. It changes only when a publisher changes its terms.

How to read it Three columns per row: the dataset, the page of this site where you can still SEE its figures, and the licence reason we cannot hand it over as a file. This table is the exceptions list only; everything on the shelves above it is downloadable, and each shelf card states its data date, its size and the page it comes from.

What moves it The publisher's own terms of use. A commercial index house sells the data, so quoting a figure in context is fair use and shipping the series is redistribution. A statistical agency may allow visualisation and small extracts while forbidding bulk re-dissemination.

How to use it If a figure you need is on this list, take it from the original publisher directly rather than from us. The row tells you which page shows it, so you can see the number and then go to the named source for the file.

The trap Reading a short list here as a thin site. The opposite is true: everything not on this list is downloadable, and a data house that publishes no exclusions at all has usually not read its licences.

One dataset is exportable only on a condition, and the condition travels inside the file: the Freightos FBX index may be reproduced with full credit to Freightos and a link, so wherever an FBX figure appears in an export, the credit and the link are on the same page of the file rather than in a footnote somewhere else.

If a file will not open, or looks wrong

Every file here is a real .xlsx spreadsheet. Excel, LibreOffice, Numbers and Google Sheets all open it directly. In Google Sheets use File, then Import, then Upload, and choose Replace spreadsheet.

Why there is no CSV version

A CSV file is only text: it cannot hold a date format, a thousands separator or a percentage, so the same figure came out looking different in different files and there was no way to fix it inside the file. In a spreadsheet the format belongs to the column, so a date is a date everywhere and a number will sum, sort and chart.

The calculators contain formulas, not saved answers. That is deliberate: a saved answer could sit in a cell whose inputs you had just changed. Your spreadsheet works them out when it opens the file. If a cell shows #####, the column is simply too narrow for the formatted number: widen it and the figure is there.

The films

Short narrated films with captions and a transcript, each on the page whose subject it explains.

  • What actually sets a yarn price 2 min Why one number arrives from a mill and eight decisions are hidden inside it, and why no published index contains any of them. Watch it on .
  • Which country for which cloth 2 min Six countries, four kinds of cloth, and the two completely different reasons a country turns out to be cheap. Watch it on .
  • How a first production order actually runs 1 min Brief to shipment for a first order: the four stages, the three payment milestones, and the three things this desk will not do. Watch it on The garment office.
  • Getting garments made, step by step 3 min The garment guide’s fourteen steps in under three minutes: from the price you can pay, through the tech pack, sampling and the deposit, to the inspection and the balance. Watch it on Getting garments made.
  • Buying fibre, step by step 3 min The fibre guide’s twelve steps in one sitting: the spec your counts dictate, the merchants, the one-basis comparison, the letter of credit, the tests and the claim window. Watch it on Buying fibre, yarn and fabric.
  • Buying yarn and fabric, step by step 3 min One process buys both: the thirteen steps a cone of yarn and a roll of cloth share, from the spec to the record that carries into next season. Watch it on Buying fibre, yarn and fabric or Cotton yarn, quoted.

Tables and charts, page by page

32 pages carry them. Open one and every table on it is listed in the order you would meet it, under the heading it sits below. Every link lands on the section the table sits in, which is also where the note saying what the numbers mean is.
