Currencies and cost drivers
The rates that move a supplier quote between offer and acceptance. INR, CNY, EUR and GBP from the ECB's daily reference fix of 16 October 2026; PKR and BDT market rates of 16 October 2026 from an open daily dataset.
- USD/INR 94.96 · down 1.77 w/w
- USD/CNY 6.6862 · down 0.0059 w/w
- EUR/USD 1.1253 · up 0.0047 w/w
- GBP/USD 1.3335 · up 0.0115 w/w

- USD/BDT 123.18 · up 0.13 w/w
- WTI crude, $/bbl 96.88 · down 1.19 w/w
Crude feeds PTA and MEG, which feed polyester, which is the other half of every blended yarn. Indicative reference rates, not dealable quotes.
The PKR and BDT rows are daily market rates, not the official fix. For the official rate, use the central bank itself: the State Bank of Pakistan (opens in a new tab) and Bangladesh Bank (opens in a new tab).
What this means for the currencies
What this is European Central Bank daily reference rates for the dollar against the Indian rupee, the yuan, the euro and sterling; daily market rates for the Pakistani rupee and the taka from an openly licensed dataset; and weekly WTI crude from the US Energy Information Administration.
How to read it The USD rows say how many units of that currency one dollar buys, so a RISING number means that currency has weakened against the dollar. EUR/USD and GBP/USD run the other way, dollars per euro and dollars per pound, so there a rise means a stronger euro or a stronger pound. The small line beside a row sketches the recent path, the coloured note is the change on the week, and the last row is crude oil in dollars per barrel, here because oil feeds the polyester chain.
What moves it Central bank policy and trade flows move the currencies. Crude moves with oil supply and demand and feeds the entire polyester chain.
How to use it A quotation in a supplier currency can move several percent on the currency alone. Crude tells you whether polyester pressure is starting at the feedstock end rather than at the mill.
The trap None of these is the rate your bank will give you or the rate a supplier books at. The PKR and BDT rows are market rates from an aggregated open dataset, not the central bank fix; where the two differ, the central bank number linked above is the official one.
