What we do at every stage
Two desks, one standard of checking: the raw material desk for fibre, yarn and fabric, and the brand sourcing office for garments and home textiles.
The raw material desk
Fibre, yarn and fabric to a written spec from checked spinning, weaving and knitting mills. For mills and for brands that buy their own material.
The brand sourcing office
Finished garments and home textiles made to order from checked factories and mills. Milestone paid, third party inspected.Eight stages, one picture each
Swipe on a phone. Each stage says which desk does it.
-
01 Both desksChecking the mill or factory
Before any supplier is put in front of you it is checked against your requirement, at one of four levels we name out loud, from Listed to Inspected. We say which level a mill has reached and never more.
The four levels -
02 Both desksWriting the specification
One written specification: count, blend and construction for yarn and fabric; the tech pack, fabric, quantities and sizes for a garment; the size grid and packing for home textiles. The guides show what to write.
How to write a spec -
03 Both desksQuotes on one basis
Every mill or factory quotes the same specification the same way, so the prices can actually be compared. Nothing is put out to a list of mills to bid on, and every quote comes back through us.
Worked examples -
04 Brand sourcing officeSampling and approvals
Fabric, fit and pre-production samples are approved in writing before production starts. The garment and home textile guides set out which sample comes when, and what to look for in each.
The sampling steps -
05 Brand sourcing officeProduction follow up
Orders are paid against milestones you can see. Production is followed from the factory floor, and a problem is reported when it is found rather than when the goods arrive.
How an order runs -
06 Both desksThird party inspection
For finished goods an independent inspector who works for you checks the order before anything ships. For yarn and fabric the mill test report is read with you before you commit.
Testing and inspection -
07 Both desksPacking and documents
Packing to your instruction, labels and barcodes as your market needs them, and the shipping documents checked so the goods clear without a surprise.
Duty at the border -
08 Both desksShipping and landed cost
Freight, duty and the other lines of a landed cost are worked out before you order, with the freight indexes and duty rates the Market Data half reads every week.
The landed cost tools
From fibre to shipment
The raw material desk works from fibre to fabric. The brand sourcing office works from fabric to the finished piece. Dyes, chemicals and machinery are outside both.
What we do not do
- We hold no stock, give no credit and take no escrow.
- We do not run an auction or open bidding. One specification, quotes on one basis, every quote through us.
- We do not quote dyes, chemicals or machinery.
- We do not charge the buyer. The supplier pays us only when a shipment happens.
- We do not call a mill verified beyond the level it has actually been checked to.
